Applying to St. Peter GATE Program

St. Peter Macomb offers two programs for gifted (grades 3-6) and potentially gifted students (grade 2). The program accepts students from in and outside the school.

How to Apply
Select applications accepted past due dates based on school classroom size availability. Contact Amber Nill to inquire about availability.

Important Dates for all applicants:
  • January 22 Open House - Sign up to come tour the school and talk to a GATE teacher about the program
  • January 22-February 22 GATE Application Window Opens
  • February 17, 2023 Deadline to sign up for CogAT. Email ambernill@splcs.net with your name, student name,  DOB and current grade/teacher )
  • March 7, 2023 CogAT Testing  from 2:30-5:30 
  • 2-4 Weeks after CogAT Testing Letter of Intention sent to parents
  • April/May, 2023 Parents sign Letter of Intent

Important Dates for 1st grade students interested in the Bridge to GATE program:
  • ​March 4-March 18, 2023 Application Window open for all grade 1 students.
  • April/May, 2023 Parents sign Letter of Intent


Application Requirements:
  • Complete the GATE or Bridge to GATE application within the window provided (Click to view application).                
  • Within the application parents will provide:
    • Contact Information
    • NWEA MAP scores for with Fall 2022 and/or Winter 2023 in Reading and Math assessments
    • Sign Up for Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) grades 2-6 only. Email ambernill@splcs.net to sign up (include students First & Last Name, Date of Birth, Current School, Teacher, and Grade Level).  
    • Letter of Recommendation (Optional for 1st-6th but highly recommended for students outside of St.Peter)
    • Possible entrance assessments 
    • Optional IQ Results from the past 18 months
  • Acceptance will be based on these multiple points of data by a GATE committee. 

GATE Application/ Identification Process

  1. Parent Info Night & January Open House
  2. ANY parent can apply for their child.
  3. Once Applications are received (Bridge to GATE) 1st grade teachers complete teacher observation form to go with parents application/observation form. (GATE) 2nd-6th grade students sign up to complete the CogAT assessment as well as a teacher and parent observation form.
  4. GATE Committee Reviews portfolio of scores and information.
  5. Letter of Recommendation sent home.
  6. Parent can choose to appeal GATE committee decision.
