Happy last day of January!
This week was an amazing week celebrating Lutheran Schools. I enjoyed starting class as we do everyday discussing different topics about GOD and our journey with him. The students and myself continue to learn and grow together threw Christ everyday and I am so grateful. Report cards are available to view. If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything we are doing in the classroom feel free to reach out and we can set up a time to catch up. I spent time this week going over and organizing all the responses to the parent survey. Thank you! I will be using each week to answer some of the questions I received. As always reach out at anytime with anything you need. There were a few questions about the curriculum and what we are learning. One place you can go to learn more is on the website under the curriculum tab. http://stpetergate.weebly.com/curriculum.html Here you will find a large overview of the curriculum. From there scroll down the page to see the breakdown of the curriculum for this year. One great suggestion was to communicate and explain the learning targets and goals to help parents better understand what learning is going on in the classroom. I love this! This is something I will add to our website for the future to help connect the classroom and parents. Thank you for that suggestion. Blessings on a great week!

Once this goal is completed we will be using their NWEA winter scores to set specific student math goals. Any questions let me know. Be sure to check out our student page with what our 3rd graders have been learning this week!
Happy Wednesday!
Parents I would love your input on our program. I believe in growth through continuous learning and growth. If one or both members of your family would complete the survey it will help in the continued improvement of our program. Completing this as soon as possible would be most helpful but if you are unable to get to it right away having it completed by this Sunday would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to learning from each of you! Mrs. Nill Happy start to MLK weekend!
I wanted to share the amazing work of our students. This week we spent our morning meetings discussing the work of Martin Luther King Jr and 1 Corinthians 12:27, Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part if it. We read books, watched speeches and talked about the overall message that Gods love is the best love that he gives to everybody. To prepare for LSW I told the students that they would be in charge of decorating the door. Their ideas and discussions were beautiful. The 3rd grade class had the idea to show others Gods love by writing positive messages on sticky notes. They choose sticky notes so if someone was have a tough day they could grab a sticky note off the door and be reminded of Gods love and our whole community's love for them. Amazing! The second graders favorite message from all the MLK books we read was love is for everyone. They wanted to create posters using MLK and bible messages as symbols for reminding people of Gods love. What a connection to what we have been learning about symbols and making connections to the books we are reading in ELA. These classes continue to blow me away with their kind hearts and insightful minds. I am so proud of them and all their efforts! Moving forward with our new curriculum I wanted to share our ELA and Math class goals. ELA: I can read to understand by using my tools to think differently about the books I am reading. The difference between this goal and our last one is that students are doing this independently while reading their own books. I've encourage them to begin reflecting as they read to understand things differently. A question you can ask students at home is: How did the book make you feel? Did your feelings or thinking change throughout the story? Math: I can understand the operations of equations and expressions by explaining what each expression and equations means. This goal reflects our new unit on numbers and operations for addition, subtraction, and multiplication. Not only do we want students to be able to solve math problems but we are working on the why and how they can begin to explain it to others as well. At home questions: Can you explain that math problem to me using words or pictures? What do you mean by ______? Thank you again for your continued support and be sure to check out the students final door project on the student page! Have a great weekend. |
