This week we completed our SMART goals. Each student had one overarching goal. For second grade we created a class goal after reading the book Salt in His Shoes. Once each 3rd-5th grade student create their overarching goal each teacher meet with them to discuss how this applies to ELA and MATH. From there they set individual subject goals that we then shared with their teachers as well. These goals will hang from our walls as we continue to explore and discover new learnings everyday. If you ever want to know what their goal is refer back to the goal sheet we shared with 3rd-5th grade parents on Meet the Teacher night. You will also see these goals in their binders when they come home at the end of the month (October). ELA this Month Bridge to GATE (2nd): We have started the unit on looking closer at our language system. This has already began to challenge students as we pull away from memorize our written language (spelling) and beginning to ask -"Why is it spelled that way?" -"What patterns are we seeing? Hearing? Applying?" This is very new for most of our BG students and it is going to take time to get them to see things different while shifting the way they have always learned to deeper ability that God has given them. Continue to encourage them to be curious and never settle in their learning. We are using their spelling words from the classroom to begin to connect our learning. GATE (3-5): BOOK CLUBS :) From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler . Read the note below to learn more. Know that I do not expect you to be checking in on them to make sure that they are reading or completing their journal entires. However if you would like to I am including the potential dates for our book clubs (see below). As always as things come up we make adjustments to dates as needed and I will update that here. 3rd Grade Frindle
