Happy last days of October! Hard to believe the month and quarter are over. Below you will find information about how the upcoming report cards and conferences will look for next week. As always if you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out.
Mrs. Nill & Mrs. Fitzgerald Report Cards:
"Student met qualification criteria, were identified as Gifted, and participated in St Peter GATE Program in Q1 during 2021-2022 school year. Grades were calculated in collaboration with the general education teacher for ELA and Math. Students received standards based grades for GATE (see attached rubric and student folder for student work evidence). " This comment is including the work we have done with the classroom teacher to support students in their general education classrooms while tying it into their work in GATE. The rubric for GATE will be in students academic binder that will be going home later this month. Normally these will go home the same day as report cards. Due to our virtual learning the progress reports, goal sheets, and binders will be delayed and sent home later in the month. During your scheduled conference time we will still go over the unit goals for the program. As always once you are able to view their academic binders we will be available to answer any questions you have. Conferences: Conferences this year will be held via Zoom again for GATE and Bridge to GATE parents. You will find the sign up times and dates on the sign up genius page linked below. All parents will meet with GATE teachers (together) to go over students progress and goals for Quarter 1. If the day and times provided do not work for you please reach out to us as soon as you can and we can work together to find a day and time to meet. Academic Binders: These binders will be divided into two sections; items that you get to keep and items that remain in the folder. If items are inside the front pocket of their binders you get to keep them. If the papers are in page protectors they are to be viewed and kept inside the binder. You will also find a sheet inside the first page protector that is to be read, signed, and returned with the binder. Once we have the date for this we will communicate it with you.
GATE Teachers are inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

This week it is all about the parents and the amazing role you have and continue to play in your students lives everyday. Thank you! PART 1: SMART GOALS Our new SEL theme that we began talking about this week was setting our individual SMART goals. SMART goals both academic and social/emotional, are ones that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely. We believe strongly in accomplishing these goals by including the teacher, class, and parents to achieve them and become the best versions of themselves. As we begin working as a class on our SMART goals we would love for our students to begin thinking about their individual goals by speaking with you the parent(s). Going home (Friday for GATE/Monday for Bridge to GATE) is a hopes and goals sheet that you can complete with your student. There is no right or wrong answer but more of a way to have a conversation with your student about what they want to achieve this year. We know sometimes it is hard to get the conversation going so on the back you will find our beginning unit goals as a conversation starter if you need it. But remember there is no wrong answer. Together, you can write 1, 2, or 3 goals. Wherever the conversation leads you. In the classroom we will write a Math, ELA, and SEL goal. Next, we will use the conversation with you, the observations we have made in class, student driven data, and student input to create 3 personalized goals. These individualized goals will be communicated with you at Parent Teacher Conferences. These forms can be brought back at any time next week. Have these forms back to us though no later than Friday, October 29. PART 2: GIFTED Information As GATE teachers we were blessed enough to attend the MAGC conference this past weekend. We highlighted a few takeaways from the parent night on Friday. You will see it attached below. As always if you have any questions or comments do not hesitate to reach out. We look forward to reading students hopes and goals. Have a great weekend! Mrs. Nill & Mrs. Fitzgerald Happy Friday!
We hope all the students have enjoyed their day off of school. We missed them as they really have started to engage and work hard in our rooms. This week we wanted to send your focus to our SEL component. We have added a place here on the website for parents to reference for what we are and will be doing every week during students SEL time. When you head to the SEL page you will find the new Michigan competencies and indicators they have released for SEL learning. You will also get insight on our current SEL focus. Check it out to learn more about what we are doing weekly and resources for parents at home. This month we have been focusing on the theme of Belonging. Students final project was to take what they have learned and choose from a choice board to share how they connect the idea of belonging to their community, themselves, or to the learning they have done. Below you will see the work that was completed by our Bridge to GATE students. They did an amazing job! We are so proud of them and their growth. Our next theme is Goal Setting. Students will be sharing this with you through their student portfolios that you will see for Parent Teacher Conferences. We are excited to start this as we discuss class goals and personal goals. As always if you have any questions about what we are doing never hesitate to reach out. We look forward to continuing to grow academically, socially, and emotionally, together as a class family. Mrs. Nill & Mrs. Fitzgerald
This week we wanted to share how students can access the class in the case that they have to be at home. Our online classroom can be found through their gmail in the application Google Classroom. We have included a quick 5 minute video to show you and your student (if they need a reminder) on how to get onto google classroom from home.
This week we worked with students in Bridge to GATE and GATE on how to set up and accesses their classrooms from their chrome books. We know this can sometimes look different on non google devices and they is where the video above and your help will come in handy when at home. Google Classroom will be a tool that will utilized for some classwork week to week but mainly for any student who finds themselves needing to work from home. For example, students in GATE will be beginning their ELA centers next week. The directions for the centers will be found on their google classroom and the materials will be a combination of classroom and google classroom. This gives students the flexibility to work on it from home if they choose or have it available outside the classroom if they need to. The majority of our work will still be found and done in our physical GATE classroom. If you know that your student will need to be working from home virtually let us know and we will make sure to put additional items on their personalized google classroom for them to work on. We will also use their google classroom meet link as a way to communicate with them and check in when they are at home. Any additional materials will be left at the pick up bin in the front of the school. If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask. Have a wonderful weekend! Mrs.Nill & Mrs.Fitzgerald |
