We are in the homestretch and finishing up units in ELA for some and working on our writing in others. 5th grade was participating in Battle of the Books today we wish them luck and can not wait to hear how they did! 4th-6th graders are headed on their class voted field trip on Tuesday, April 30th. They wrote persuasive essays this past summer and Jaclyn in 6th grades essay won! We will be headed to Snapology and can not wait to share our experience with everyone. Enjoy the sunshine this weekend!
ELA Update: 2nd Grade: Students worked on reading and creating puns this week. We also began our final project of using all our language understandings to create their own Secret Languages. I will be sure to post their final projects when they are done. 3rd Grade: We are working on understanding the purpose as well as new persuasive strategies to aid the writing they are doing for Ms. Woomer. This week we worked together to use the writing process to write a paper on why we need a lunchroom at our school. 4th Grade: We are diving into reading and writing fiction stories inspired by real events. Students are looking at how every story element in a fiction or personal narrative serves a main purpose to aid the theme and moral of the story. We have been looking at evidence of this in common stories they have read. Next week we will begin applying this to their own writing. 5th Grade: Our Grammar Study has begun and the students have been having the best conversations. It is a new approach to studying grammar. The goals are to create an enlightened enthusiasm for the study of ideas in language (different than memorizing). We want to bring attention to the most introspective and human aspects of grammar. We focus on reading, thinking, and reflecting as we study. It's been awesome! 6th Grade: We are continuing to read, study, adn reflect types of literature they do not tend to read. This week we focused on folktales and their characteristics. We compared and contrasted Japanese Folktales to Chinese Folktales.

Another great week of applying and extending our learning! Although our schedules have had to remain fluid due to special events at school and in the classroom, we have continued to support whether it be in their classroom or in ours. It is amazing to see and hear the connections to the content they are learning in their classroom and how they are able to apply it to their world.
2nd Grade- Finished up a unit on measurement by participating in a scavenger hunt around the room where they had to predict and measure the area of different objects. 3rd Grade- Finished up a chapter on measurement and data where we took time to interpret graphs and what they represent. 4th Grade- Started a new chapter on decimals and how it connects to converting between different units of measurement. 5th Grade- Finished a chapter on volume & celebrated a successful classroom test by building skyscrapers out of linking cubes given certain criteria to solve. We continue to love our weekly lunch with 4th and 5th grade students. It is fun to connect over a meal and play a variety of games or logic puzzles. Blessings on your weekend, Mrs. Fitzgerald & Mrs. Nill What a great week! From the students who did an awesome job taking the CogAT, the sunshine, the amazing 4th grade chapel, and the solar eclipse it was a busy one for sure. It is hard to believe we only have just over a month of GATE left for the year. Be on the lookout in the next month for a parent survey to let us know how the year in GATE went for you and your student. We are always looking to make improvements to help make this the best learning environment for our students and your feedback helps! Enjoy the sunshine reappearing this weekend.
The week was so busy we forgot to take pictures! Enjoy these few from 4th grade math working together and the game of simile pictionary the 2nd grade loved playing! Q3 Academic Binders will go home Monday, April 8th. Please sign, remove student work, and return binders Tuesday, April 9th. Take more time to go through it if needed.
Students taking CogAT: Mrs. Nill sent an email with important information regarding next week's test. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any last minute questions. Jesus brings new life! For our spring bulletin board, students wrote one word of a way we see Jesus in ourselves and those around us. Some words written were: Forgiveness, Hope, Love, Friendship, Faith, Loyalty, Kindness, Peace. Blessings on your weekend, Mrs. Fitzgerald & Mrs. Nill |
