The weather could not have been more perfect as we dove into our curriculum. This week we focused on the big question "Can you see things differently? What do you see? Can you think about things differently? What are you thinking?"
We practiced this new way of thinking by heading outside and observing everyday things like trees and clouds. I challenged them to see if they could see these things differently and if so what did they see? They blew my mind away with their ability to think. They then took these ideas to create poems. We discussed how over the next couple months I am challenging them to think about things differently. When doing math, reading a book or poem can you think about it differently then you have? We will be adding skills to help them accomplish this as we move forward in the unit. Below you will see a button for sign up genius. It is OPTIONAL. If you would like to check in, make suggestions, ask questions, or just catch up with how things are going in GATE click the button below to sign up for a 15 minute time slot. If none of those days or times work reach out and we will find some that do. Have a wonderful weekend and don't forget to check out the student page where one of our students shared what we learned and did this week.

What a great first week in GATE! We spent a majority of our time getting to know one another and setting up expectations for the year. We learned what a brain smart start was and how to get our brains ready to learn. I communicated that my agreement everyday is to "keep them safe so they could learn". They agreed that they would also keep the class safe so everyone can learn". We then designed a poster with the 4 C's of GATE:
Next week we will start our ELA and MATH units. If you want to know more about what we will be learning head to the Parent Resource page. As always if you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out. |
