Thank you to those of you who have signed up to go over students end of year goals, CogAT, and progress thus far last week. As a reminder it is only mandatory for 2nd grade to sign up for a time but I welcome meeting with everyone to discuss your student and they year we have had. The link for the Sign Up Genius is in last weeks blog post.
This month we have been focusing every Tuesday on our SEL Lesson 4: Managing Emotions. It follows the progression of lessons to help students to become their best selves today and everyday. We started the month discussing what makes us feel different emotions good and bad because there are no wrong emotions. This lead us to learn about our own emotional management and understanding they we are the only ones in control of how we react and feel. Once students were able to understand the power they have we focused next on strategies to handle all of our emotions. The biggest we started with was prayer. We talked about why God created emotions and how they are meant to help us lead back to him. Sometimes we lead back to him with thanksgiving for the feeling of being happy and excited for things in our lives. Sometimes we lead back to him in prayer when things are not going as planned and we welcome the feeling of sadness or disappointment. Students also shared their own ways of managing emotions such as taking a walk, talking to a friend, playing a sport, exercising, going for a walk, writing it down, and so many amazing ideas. I challenged them to start noticing when they were able to recognize their emotions and begin to manage them with these strategies. Lastly, we spent a day discussing our own self talk. Students shared that some emotions lead to negative self talk. So practice ways together to turn it into positive self talk as another way to manage our emotions. I encourage everyone at home to welcome all your students feelings as a reminder that God is always with us and that we always need him . Help them choose a strategy that works best for them or make a list of strategies they can try and keep them hung on their wall. I have a great amount of resources for this and if you ever are interested feel free to reach out and I can provide you with anything you need to help to continue to support your student. The photos below are of different groups of students working together to identify and manage emotions. There is also a few photos of the 3rd graders and their math project on finding the area of a irregular shape (their classmate). As always reach out with any questions you have. Have a great weekend! Blessings, Mrs. Nill & Mrs. Fitzgerald

It is that time of year to review all the amazing progress your student has made.
2nd grade, Bridge to GATE students are the only ones we are requiring to meet with in order to go over their CogAT scoring. While we would like to meet with everyone and go over all GATE students grades 3rd-5th we are making that optional for those that have no further questions about the school year. Please review the available slots using the link above and choose a date and time that works for you and is not already taken. When signing up make sure to indicate if you would like to hold our meeting in-person or via zoom. If none of these times work for you email [email protected] and we will set up a different day and time to discuss your student. 2nd Grade parents if you have any questions about how to read the CogAT before our meeting you can visit the CogAT page to learn more. Reach out with any questions you have. Blessings, Mrs. Nill Happy Wednesday/ 80 degree day!
